2019 is upon us! We are well into the year now and following a festive Christmas and New Year period for most, it always takes some time to re-adjust your mind and body back into a healthy daily routine. Here are some awesome tips to help re-energise your days so you can take on the year with motivation and excitement.

 

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

You are completely in control of your 2019 and have the opportunity to choose how and where this year takes you. Start the year off by setting some optimistic yet realistic New Years’ Resolutions. Write these down somewhere you know you will view e.g. a diary or notebook. It is then important to break down these overriding solutions into smaller, more achievable goals for the short-term – whether this be daily, weekly, or monthly goals. You don’t want to come full bore into 2019 with the expectation of achieving your resolutions immediately. By setting yourself more realistic short-term goals, you can feel a sense of achievement each week or month that you tick these off and are one step closer to your main goal!

 

GREENS

Spinach, kale, parsley, broccoli and other green leafy vegetables have long been known as great sources of iron, as well as vitamin C. Iron is an essential mineral that helps transport oxygen throughout the body, thus providing optimal energy production and output. Iron absorption in the body can be markedly increased by eating foods that are rich in vitamin C and for this reason, it would be beneficial to consume foods containing iron and vitamin C alongside one another. As your green leafy veggies provide both these important micronutrients, implementing them into your diet on a daily basis will be beneficial for fighting lethargy and fatigue, and keeping your body cells at optimal strength for amazing overall health.

 

MATCHA

Introducing matcha into your daily diet is a great alternative to coffee that will give you a similar mental alertness without any adverse side effects. Matcha leaves are organically grown and hand-picked in Japan and made into a finely ground, powdered, high-quality green tea. Matcha has been typically used to boost metabolism and relieve stress. Matcha is relatively high in caffeine but due to the presence of L-theanine, it does not create that same buzz you might experience from a coffee. Regular exercise has been shown to promote the transport of oxygen around the body, which is important for optimal energy production. It also almost guarantees that you’ll be able to sleep more soundly, allowing your body’s energy levels to reset and reboot. Exercising may also cause your body to release stress hormones, known as epinephrine and norepinephrine, that in modest amounts may make you feel energised. If you find that you are pushed for time to exercise before or after work, make sure you utilise your lunch break to fit in a brisk walk or even a quick gym workout.
